Cuddling up with a warm blanket, a hot cup of coffee and binging on Netflix or reading while it snows outside…. sounds dreamy right? This ya’ll is Hyyge in winter. We’ve probably all felt the warm and fuzzy feeling around the holidays as everyone prepares for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The decorations, the twinkling lights, it all sets the mood for cozy evenings by the fire. The Danes have perfected it and this is where we get Hygge. Pronounced (HUE-gah) the Danish have this concept of simplicity, enjoying life surrounded by friends and family and being content. There is no one word translation to English when it comes to Hygge, it’s more of a concept or state of mind. The great part is it’s not just something we can experience in winter, it’s meant to be felt all year-round. Here are three reasons why you most definitely want to embrace Hygge and bring it into your life today!

Slow down and just be

Being content and having gratitude for all the blessings in life. Everyday moments become special if you can slow down enough to appreciate them. We don’t need every new gadget that comes out, or the fanciest home décor. Simple is better, which leads to less clutter, which means less stress! Mindset is the key, we all have our troubles, but if we choose to see the meaningful moments in the midst of the rocky times we begin to change our outlook.

We also don’t have to say “yes” to every invite or activity. Quiet evenings at home to chat about your day or weekends without an agenda feed our soul. It’s okay to take a break from the crazy hectic schedules to just breathe and enjoy the company of family and friends.

Be social…at home

This doesn’t mean grabbing your phone and texting your friends. That’s all and well but we’re talking about good ol’ fashion conversation over a comfort food cooked at home. It doesn’t have to be fancy and don’t over think it. Connecting with your tribe can make you happier, so can yummy food! Talk about your day with those you care about and surround yourself with those that lift you up, encourage and do life with you. And of course, light some candles!!!

Display candles EVERYWHERE

Candles don’t have to be just for special occasions or bubble baths. The Danes light candles all the time, even when they're alone. Candlelight creates a cozy space that relaxes the mind and soothes the soul. Try scented candles that takes you back to a special time. Like our Deep Blue that brings visions of a tropical honeymoon or vacation, a time of pure bliss and happiness. You can also make dinnertime special by adding some candlelight and chat with your spouse and kids about their day.
